Spirit can be a huge topic. It also is an elusive one because of the countless interpretations about what spirit is. Everyone has a different concept. However, It is important to try and define it in general terms for the purpose of creating a goal.

People have different connotations for the term ‘spirit’; some associate it with religion, some use it interchangeability with soul, while others become completely irritated by the mere word and totally dismiss it as something intangible and mystical. Whatever your view, it’s a concept that has been around a long time.

Spirit is defined as; an animating or vital principle held to give life to physical organisms, a supernatural essence, an immaterial intelligent or sentient part of a person and a mental disposition characterized by firmness or assertiveness.

It is a part of what makes us human. It is the part that seeks and knows our highest good. It drives us to reach for something greater. Spirit has the power to be the grandest part of us.

Gary Zukav defines the spirit as the multisensory or intuitional part of us, the part that senses beyond the 5 senses. He says your personality is your mind, your body and your intuitional structure. Your soul is that part of you that existed before you were born and that will exist after you die. It is that part of you that longs for harmony, cooperation, sharing and reverence for life.

I believe it is important for everyone to develop a sense of spirit that they are comfortable with. From spirit comes many great things…including serenity, ambition, self worth and more.

I have attached some light reading on the subject to help you find the definition that best suits you.
